A Legacy of Leadership and Inclusion

Rebekah's leadership journey began with her early volunteer work in 2008 and culminated in her role as Executive Director of Financial Aid at the University of Arizona. She led with vision and warmth, launching statewide training initiatives, building community partnerships, and establishing scholarship programs for underrepresented students. She was equally known for her collaborative spirit and drive to uplift others.

Her impact extended beyond Arizona, as she played a key role in shaping WASFAA's leadership development efforts. Her enthusiasm, intellect, and grace inspired colleagues across the Western region and beyond. The Rebekah Hoppel Salcedo Leadership Development Program (RHS LDP) was named in her honor and continues to develop future leaders in her memory.

Lessons from 'The Doctor'

Rebekah was admired not only for what she accomplished but for how she lived—with humility, ambition, kindness, and joy. Her colleague Don Merson reflected on ten unforgettable lessons she embodied:

  • Be humble
  • Have goals
  • Help people grow
  • Work hard and play hard
  • Lead with kindness and justice
  • Know how to do the work yourself
  • Hold the powerful accountable
  • Be a steward of your team
  • Inspire through action

Rebekah accomplished more in 36 years than many do in a lifetime. Her light, leadership, and laughter continue to guide us.
